As technology becomes more innovative, more business are migrating all of their services and functions to be based online. One of the wiser and more popular trends for online business owners is to match the online credit card processing company with the hosting company. There are a few security and productivity benefits that make this an easy choice for many online business owners.

Credit Card Processing

Choosing a reputable merchant express credit card processing company is very important for a few different reasons. A well-known company processing payments for your business will add some credibility to your business and will help bring in customers. A reliable company will also ensure large payment and protection in customer disputes and returns. A company that can handle both your payment processing needs and hosting needs is mostly likely large enough to service all of your extraneous business needs you may develop as your business grows. It is important to select a provider that can handle your potential and projected business growth and sales volume.

Hosting

Having the hosting and credit card processing from one provider ensures the security of your data by creating less room for error in information transfers. It also ensures that the host can handle the burden of processing all of your payments. Choosing providers that meet both your needs will ensure all your needs are met opposed to shopping around for services every few months.

Working with providers that can offer all of their services you need or have established relationships with other appropriate providers will make your everyday business transactions much easier. Ultimately, it is simply easier and more effective to deal with one company opposed to two or three to manage your online transaction and security concerns.

Search engine optimization is very valuable, but if done wrong, can lead to penalties from Google and other search engines.

Securing Your SEO

When doing a search for a term it is always important to be able to spot well written content, and content that is poorly done. Make sure have fresh accurate information that will make potential clients and visitors want to take the time to review your website. Key words that are up to date will help your rankings in all the major search engine terms. Write articles and blogs that are your words, not words that have been duplicated. Search engines finding duplicated content will penalize your website severely for violating those terms. Your own content will also save you lots of time and your reputation if you get busted for having someone’s terminology. Take the time to do the research on what you are writing about, and be sure your information is correct. It will save you so much time in the long run putting in the effort.

Newest SEO Developments

If you plan on taking on the SEO challenge, there are some recent developments that are a must to know. Your content must be high quality or you are not going to stand much of a chance to get your website up the ranks. Content that is copied, stolen, or reused will get your site punished and you might have a hard time finding it amongst the ranks again. Google is one of the top search engine contenders that is not messing around when it comes to fixing this problem with bad content. Your best bet is to either do your SEO yourself or hire a reputable company that has excellent references and can back up their services.

Taking your time with this complex skill is something you cannot get away with. Proper key wording, tagging, and content will keep you safe, legal, and prospering. Finally, if you’re still worried, contact your Arlington lawyer for more help.

The essence of data centers is management of data. Over the last couple of years, there has been exponential growth in data. In small, business and large companies, volumes of data are churned every day, most of which need to be archived for a long time. To accommodate this growing data, companies need to expand the existing data centers. This they do by either upgrading the existing facilities or leasing larger data center space.

What Companies Spent on Data Centers in 2010

Out of all IT factions, data center infrastructure eats up the highest chunk of the IT budget. In 2010, large companies spent billions on data centers each. The US government spent $24 billion on data center infrastructure, from the given $80 billion IT budget.

Large players like Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and eBay have built their own data centers to cut costs, with Google spending $2.3 on its custom data center. Microsoft is said to spend $500 million on each of its DCs, which adds up to billions a year.

Facebook is following the trend. Over the years, the company has been leasing data center space, spending $50 million on lease alone in 2010. Add the cost of servers and this amount escalates to close to a billion if not more. It is only now that the company has moved to establish its own custom data centers, with the first such infrastructure set up in Oregon.

Current Data Center Trends

1. Energy-efficient data centers
The trend now is towards green data centers. Larger companies are embracing efficient data center facilities, a move that will see them cut data center costs by more than half. Facebook was the first of the larger companies to build a fully green data center facility, and more companies are following suit.

2. Consolidation
Data center consolidation is the other trend that is fast picking up. This is happening in companies and organizations that have data center facilities spread across different locations. The idea is to fuse their programs so that all servers are run from a central location, or can be managed by a singular data center operating system.

It is a move that requires a substantial upfront investment, but there are savings to be made overall, since the operating cost comes down. The government is one of the big spenders adopting this trend. It hopes to close down up to 800 data centers, saving 30% off its data center cost.

3. Private Cloud
There is a shift towards private cloud solutions, which are cheaper and provide easier management of data capacity. Aspects of the data center that are signed up for cloud subscriptions include back up and archiving.

4. Tiering
Companies are taking advantage of tiering, which enables them to manage more data while minimizing costs. Deeper tiers are used to archive inactive to less-active data, while top tiers are reserved for data that is used constantly.

Impact of these Trends on Data Center Costs Beyond 2011

It is to be expected that companies will spend more over the coming years, constructing modern, green data centers and consolidating their server programs into larger facilities. Upon completion of the data centers, this cost will come down sharply. Companies that continue leasing data center space will spend less in comparison, since they will not incur any construction costs.

Companies that rely on e-commerce understand the importance of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). What they might not realize is that, based on the type of products or services they offer, they may not have the right kind of SEO. Keywords and back-links have become more important than ever as more and more businesses (read: Your competitors) have come online. There’s more to the game than simply getting your website to ride atop the digital waves generated by the various search engines.

A Double-Edged Sword

Optimization is a double-edged sword. Posting informative articles on your website, laced with the pertinent keywords, represents a kind of marketing technique that will get your website to bob to the top of the page. It also tells your prospective clients that your company really knows its stuff. However, just as a rising tide lifts all boats, others in your chosen field (that use similar techniques) could appear alongside your website – or even above it.

Puzzle Pieces

When it comes to your website, it is often the level of innovation where development and design are concerned that can separate your “digital billboard” from everyone else’s. It’s not enough to simply paint a sign on the side of a barn in hopes that cars driving by on the information superhighway will take notice. Staying on top of the fluid trends that influence the Internet is a crucial business activity that, like a shark, has to stay in constant motion in order to survive. Slowing down is not an option if you want your website to operate at peak performance.

Link-building is the final key to Search Engine Optimization. Without links from other sites, you are relying solely on the luck of the draw (however buoyant your site may be due to your careful keyword analysis) to pull in online traffic. When others find your site while navigating from others, it tells them that they’ve gone down the right path. The rest is up to your style and content. All the pieces of the puzzle have to fit together, otherwise SEO can only take you so far.

Developing a good business plan template is an important first step.

Everyone has a blog these days. My dad (just turned sixty last month) has three. He has his business blog, his personal blog and he’s got a twitter blog where he’s writing a novel at 140 character installments six days a week. ??So what makes your blog special, and how do you write a snappy, eye-catching, engaging blog post every time?

Journalism 101

Seriously, if you want to write a blog and you’ve not taken a basic course in journalistic writing, do so. You’ll discover ‘The Inverted Pyramid’ and a semester’s worth of other concepts that can be applied directly to your blog. A creative writing course would be nice, too, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Most important are the 5 W’s: Who, What, When, Where and Why. Here’s a crash course.

Who are you Writing For?

It’s a simple question, sure, but it can have a difficult answer. Who will be reading your blog post? Are you writing for ten year olds or twenty-something’s? Do you intend to be read by colleagues, fans, friends, employers, locals, internationals, or bi-lingual’s?

Having a targeted demographic will help you to picture your audience while you’re writing your blog. It will help you to choose a tone, vocabulary, and topic that will appeal to them, as well as be understood by them. More important than knowing what you’ll be saying is knowing who you’ll be saying it to.

What Will You Be Writing About?

This one is pretty simple, really: “What is this blog post about?” If your blog is designed to share your adventures with friends and family while you’re teaching English in South Korea, your topic is already decided. If it’s more of a soap-box upon which you champion a political stance and ideology, you might have a little more work cut out for you in coming up with a topic.

When Will This Be Posted?

It’s at this point that I have to confess that I’ve modified the journalistic “5 W’s,” in order to better meet my own needs. The original ‘When’ refers to “When did the event happen?” That doesn’t work well in an overall guide for writing blogs. So instead I’ve chosen “When Will This Be Posted.”

You need to decide whether or not you’ll be posting immediately, delaying the publishing date, or even implying that it has been posted weeks prior to the day you actually wrote it. Knowing this while you’re writing allows you to maintain continuity with other posts you may have written. If it’s an article about Halloween posted in April, you might want to explain why.

Where Will This Be Seen?

You know your audience, your topic and your time, now know your stage. Does your blog have any recurring themes, concepts or standards you have to adhere to? Is it moderated by an outside censor or is it governed by your own good judgment?

Second to deciding who will be reading it, knowing where it will be read will help you to craft an appropriate tone and vocabulary. These are key components of the ‘voice’ of your piece.

Why Are You Writing?

I’m not getting metaphysical on you. If you’re an artist, poet, or novelist, you could be writing to express yourself, or gain exposure. If you’re an activist you could be writing this blog to engender awareness and provide a voice to the voiceless. If you’re a fan you could simply be pointing out why United is better than City (over and over and over again), or if you’re a freelance writer you could simply be trying to build a good name and reputation for yourself while sharing useful and hard-earned knowledge as a guest poster on quality websites.

Having an honest answer for this final ‘W’ enables you to write your post with purpose and drive. Your readers’ time is too precious to waste with unclear thoughts and ramblings. Make sure you always know why you’re writing, and why it matters to your reader.

and “How.”

Like the five vowels ending in ‘and sometimes Y,’ our 5 W’s end with a “How.”

The concepts above aren’t a magic key to always writing good blog posts, but it’s how you start. It’s an easy to remember mnemonic device for building a foundation before you type every blog post. I take the time before I sit down to actually write out the five W’s and then build my article on top of them. That’s how I do it.

Dating is one of the most competitive industries when it comes to the web because so many well funded sites are appearing to grab their piece of the pie. The paid dating sites have huge revenue budgets to allow them to spend a fortune in SEO as well as advertising and promotion in general. The free sites however are able to recruit thousands of members which create thousands of internal pages on their websites creating a very strong search engine optimized site.

Both free and paid dating sites have their advantages and disadvantages, but for this case study we will discuss smart SEO techniques for promoting a free internet dating site that has an average monthly advertising budget but needs to do smart SEO. The simple SEO techniques still apply, such as strong on site content as well as submitting the site to a plethora of strong directories. The problem with being in the dating niche is that there are not a lot of dating related blogs like there are in other industries. This lack of normal every-day-joe blog’s means dating webmasters need to make up for it somewhere else, and that usually means it is a competition of buying the most links.

However, with a smart search engine optimization plan, this is not necessary. The are the recommended link building strategies for a site in the competitive dating niche would be social bookmarking, blog commenting, press releases, strong internal structure, and throwing a small contest to attract bloggers to write a dating site that they otherwise wouldn’t have on their blogs. Hope this is a good start for all of you in the free dating niche!

targetting small

It has been of my own experience, when you ask most companies which main keywords they are going to be targeting for their new flagship startup company, they will tell you that they want to rank for very competitive keywords in an unbelievable time frame. While yes it is true that ranking for mortgage, debt, dating, or banking will bring you a plethora of high quality traffic that will convert into leads and sales, getting those rankings without years of work or lots of money is impossible.

Most search engine optimizers do not realize there is a better solution. All you need to do is to start thinking big by targeting small. It does not matter what niche your company or website is in, every single niche has a more targeted keyword that you can be targeting. You will be able to rank higher for this keyword, in a shorter time frame. When you start ranking for this niche keyword, you will start receiving a representative sample of the traffic you will be seeing for the big keyword you are targeting for the long term. You will be able to build up sales, leads, customer contact information, and most importantly cash while you are slowly building up to your long term keyword goal. It is often easier to rank for the number one spot for five to ten niche keywords with a high volume traffic than it is to rank for one mega keyword as it is often called. For those of you who learn by example, imagine you own an affiliate company that sells supplements. Ranking for for a term like weight loss will result in potentially hundreds of thousands of sales because so many people search for it every day, however the traffic is only semi targeted. Instead of trying to target a term like weight loss, a company that sells bottles containing maqui berry could target a term like weight loss pills, which is a slightly more targeted and less competitive keyword. Depending on the size and competition of the niche, you could keep going smaller and smaller in your niche search. Instead of targeting weight loss pills, you could target a very longtail term like how to lose weight fast. The more longtail and smaller the niche, the faster you will be able to rank. You can then easily rank number one for a niche term which you can then shift the focus to a bigger keyword, ultimately moving closer and closer to ranking for your ultimate keyword in the long term. If its going to take two years to rank for a term like weight loss which will let your company make ten thousand dollars per day… wouldn’t it be smarter to rank for ten niche keywords earning you a thousand dollars a day and then have an entire year of that to rank for your big term and have the benefits of 11 income earning keywords, 10 of which have been earning you money every day for an entire year? I think you are finally now seeing the benefits of targeting small, so go out and search google for your favorite keyword tool and start doing keyword research to find the niches you can rank for in a lot shorter timeframe than trying to stick it out with your main keyword.

The Internet has propelled many businesses, small and large, from inception to stardom. To this end, all webmasters strives to engage in this catalyst by ensuring that their website is attractive and appealing to their prospective clients. However, it is not only your clients that you must appease; it is also the search engines.

Your Website is Live! Don’t Pop Open the Bubbly Just Yet

Congratulations are in order when your website has gone from the drawing board to fully functional. However, the efforts must not stop there – in fact, they are just beginning.

Regardless of how beautifully crafted your site may be, or how competitively you may have priced your products or services, if your site cannot be found via the major search engines, you are liable to end up in the deepest, darkest corners of the internet.

How to Outshine Your Competition and Thrive

The old adage “Content is King” still reigns true today, and with the connectivity of the Internet, wherein millions of companies compete for the same market share, this adage may be more relevant now than ever before.

Ensuring that your content is well written, compelling and engaging is critical. Does this sound like a daunting task? It certainly is, yet there is more. Your content should also speak to the search engines by possessing an optimal keyword density and latent semantic indexing algorithm considerations. This is where the professionals come in to help your content shine.

Hiring a Freelance Writer

To ensure that your content sings to your audience and romances the search engines, a freelance writer is imperative. However, not all freelance writers are shaped from the same mold. You must be certain that the writer possesses significant search engine optimization knowledge, as well as an ability to capture the essence of your products or services in the best light possible.

CommunicateBetter.org is one such company that provides a harmonious blend of eloquence and SEO infused content. In addition to their affordable services, CommunicateBetter.org has a stellar reputation, with nearly 200 client raving testimonials, all boasting 100% satisfaction, verified via an independent third party.

By leaving your content in the trusted hands of a professional writer, you will increase the likelihood of your online success, while simultaneously enhancing your search engine rankings. Thereafter, it will be time to pop the bubbly!

Does size really matter? The age old question that rings in the ears of man, now haunts the webmaster looking to make his way online, through search engine optimization. The answer to this question can be applied to both scenarios – its not the size that matters, its what you do with it.

Big websites carry out big marketing schemes, because they can afford to. In a sense, they have to, as competition is fierce. These companies often go to the extreme to reach the top of the rankings, investing in expensive services and staff to make their sites more search engine friendly.

If you find yourself competing with a company ranking higher in the search engine, don’t sweat it and certainly don’t break the bank trying to keep up. Instead, focus on a set of keywords that compliment your site and appeal to your audience. Most importantly, build your site with rich content, that will encourage the conversions for which you’re looking. Just because the big companies outrank you, doesn’t mean that they will have more traffic or sales than you.

There are numerous strategies that can be employed to boost search engine rankings and generate more traffic to your site. We all know about keywords and link popularity, but other methods can be just as effective. One technique being used more frequently is called the breadcrumb trail, a strategy that combines the power of keywords and link popularity.

A breadcrumb trail is simply a group of structured links on a web page, that allows visitors to access other pages which are higher within the structure of your site. For example, you can start with the Homepage, move onto Categories, then your Article page and so forth. Not only does this make navigation easier for your visitors, it aids SEO efforts, by allowing you to implement anchortext in the form of links on your pages. This is a great way to naturally attract the search engine spiders, without overdoing it.

Breadcrumb trails have become very common, as you typically find them at the top, side or bottom of a web page. This navigation system is simple, yet effective; definitely one of the easiest ways to please your visitors and the search engines at the same time.

If you are looking to gain exposure for your service, product or website, implementing a strategy that involves SEO and branding might be your best option. Both can play an equally important part in your marketing scheme, allowing you to achieve continuity and reach a broader audience, while expanding your business.

Branding gives you a means to step away from the industry and establish more of a connection with your audience, going far beyond the basic robotic strategies of SEO. When using such an approach, keywords remain important, but the key here is emotion. Instead of building your site strictly for the search engines, you need to build for prospects, while putting your products and services on the front line. Don’t sell yourself short or your potential clients. Most people know what they want, so if you’ve got it, it should be branded into your SEO efforts.

Deep keyword research, scalable content in the form of captivating landing pages, appealing product descriptions and compelling images, all offer your brand to visitors in a tailored fashion – far more attractive than the stale, industry-standard strategies employed by most of your competitors.

House bailout failed to pass. The economy is reeling from the lack of action from congress. It’s unclear to me whether this is a good or bad thing. Generally I believe government is best kept at a minimum, so it’s possible this is the best course for our country.

As internet marketers we are in a position to shift our focus from market to market, nation to nation. I’m not saying America is on a slippery slope, but if you have the ability to spread your risk, it’s time to move into the emerging markets of more stable economies around the world.

Do we need to learn Mandarin? It couldn’t hurt! It’s not required though – many English speaking nations are in a more stable position. Canada and New Zealand come to mind. Now is the time to globalize your business. Too many webmasters have a narrow focus on just one country. Use the medium to your advantage. Diversify and grow!

Here are 5 of the most common mistakes and omissions you can easily avoid while optimizing your site for search engines.

1. Not knowing your keywords – Far and away the most common mistake people make. Site owners often use keywords or keyword phrases that are, in their minds, descriptive of their website. However, an average user might use totally different words while searching for your product. You have to think outside yourself, remember, you’re not the target audience.

2. Empty pages (lack of content) – Another common mistake. All search engines are almost strictly text-driven, in other words: they see websites as a plain text. Spiders, while crawling the Web, are primary looking for quality, non-duplicate content. Without it, it’s virtually impossible to achieve high organic rankings.

3. Ignoring title and h1 tags – Leaving the title tag empty and/or not including h1 heading on your pages is fairly common. Both tags are extremely important; you should include your keywords in them if possible. Not too mention, text in your title tag shows in search results as your page title.

4. Frames-based website – Frames disrupt a fundamental concept of the Internet: individual pages linked together with hypertext. Each page should have an individual URL, and could be used as a stand-alone entity, with navigation integrated into it. Frames really mess this concept up. What’s even more crucial: search have problems reading content from them, and therefore rarely take the time to enter the site into their files.

5. A flash website without HTML alternative – You can create incredibly beautiful websites using Flash; however, while attractive to humans, search engines have a lot of trouble picking up the text. Spiders have problems reading content, and therefore are often not able to index it. If you really insist on a Flash-based website, you’ll need to provide an HTML version as well.

1. Put up 3 ads at a time. Let them run a week or so, then look at the numbers. Get rid of bottom 2 — design 2 new ones based on winner, and run them for a week… repeat.

2. Keywords, keywords, keywords. Whenever you think of a possible term someone in your market would type in, email it to yourself right away. Then add it to campaign later. Also… use the word to create new words. There are many paid tools… but Google also has a free built-in tool. Use any tools available to you.

Example: You may think, oh yeah… someone that might buy my product would be looking up the xxxxxxx regulation that applies to their industry/hobby. Add that to the keyword list.

3. Ideally every keyword would have it’s own custom ad. But, that is not realistic. You might end up with 20,000+ keywords. Some of which rarely get traffic, making an ad for each is too time consuming. So you will want to break them into categories and have custom ads for each category.

Example: You may decide basic users/buyers of your product will have concerns about ‘ease of use’ — so that would go into the ‘Easy to Use’ campaign. Some die-hard, serious hobbyists may be more interested in the xxxxx power feature — put that into a different campaign that pushes that specific point in the ad.

Keywords can get moved back and forth. Keywords can each have a custom bid attached to them. (some convert better than others and are worth more).

Let things run a while. You need 1000 impressions to make an informed judgement on ‘click through’ …plus a week of time.

You need at least 100 clicks on a keyword to gadge the value of it.

Be patient, but always take some time to go back to the campaigns and look at the numbers. Make small adjustments, don’t over correct. Little changes here and there will slowly develop a low cost, high conversion campaign that you can profit from.

Google emerged as the preeminent search engine early on, perhaps as soon as 1998. Slowly but surely, users recognized the value of Google’s search results. Yahoo floundered, MSN joined late in the game. And now, Google commands the search engine industry with over 50% of the total market:

[TABLE=4]

Yahoo, MSN, AOL, and Ask share 40% of the total searches, while Google holds over 25% more market share than those 4 top search engines combined!

The difference between BloomSEO and other SEO firms stems from the very beginning. While most Search Engine Consultants typically come from web development, or web design – our beginning was much different.

Most firms learn to do SEO due to demand. Web development companies are asked by their clients to “get my site in Google”. The web developers and designers looked up the conventional techniques and applied them to their customer’s web sites. Some of these techniques work pretty well, some are wasted effort (and dollars). For a web developer, learning the difference was never a matter of urgency. While getting the job done, was urgent – they were being paid to do the job, not learn how to maximize results and cut inefficiencies. In addition, they weren’t being paid to test the newest techniques or to experiment with original SEO concepts.

For the first 6 years we at BloomSEO only worked on our own sites. We earned our living exclusively online and we learned search engine optimization out of necessity. If we didn’t generate more traffic from our efforts, then our efforts were wasted. We quickly learned what worked, what didn’t, and what likely directions to follow to avoid wasting time on outdated techniques or misinformation.

For us, concrete results is the mission. It didn’t occur to us that our approach was different until we were asked for advice from friends and family looking to hire a web design firm. Once we realized we had a unique service to offer, BloomSEO was born.
