Better SEO With The 301 Redirect

BloomSEO

Better SEO with the 301 redirect SEO (search engine optimization) is a hot commodity these days as everyone is looking to generate traffic for their site. SEO can be performed in various ways but one of the most effective methods involves the implementation of a redirect.

A 301 is the most widely used and SEO-friendly type of redirect. The 301 redirect instructs a search engine that your web page has been permanently moved to a different location. As a result, the search engine drops the old page from its index and includes the new one, transferring page ranking and link popularity to the new location.

Another common redirect is the 302. A 302 redirect is only temporary and does not serve many benefits in regard to SEO. This is mainly because it often allows duplicate content to be indexed to a search engine, causing web pages to be assigned to a supplemental index that doesn’t receive top priority. A 302 redirect is most beneficial only when a new page is needed on a temporary basis. Since a search engine responds to a 301 implementation by dropping the old web page, the chance of having duplicate content in the index is rather unlikely.
